The opportunity
A Tier-1 Australian bank is strengthening its financial crime function and is seeking a Compliance Manager (AML) to help steer this critical mandate through a period of regulatory transformation and uplift. Joining at a pivotal moment, you will play a central part in maturing the bank’s anti-money laundering framework as it responds to evolving AUSTRAC expectations and heightened regulatory scrutiny. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity to shape controls, advise the business, and protect the organisation against financial crime risk.
What you’ll do
- Lead the design, implementation and ongoing enhancement of the bank’s AML/CTF program in line with AUSTRAC obligations and the AML/CTF Act.
- Advise frontline and business stakeholders on customer due diligence, enhanced due diligence and KYC requirements across complex client portfolios.
- Oversee transaction monitoring and suspicious matter reporting, ensuring timely and accurate escalation to regulators where required.
- Conduct risk assessments and assurance reviews to identify control gaps and drive remediation activity to completion.
- Partner with second and third lines of defence to embed a consistent, risk-based approach to financial crime compliance.
- Prepare and present clear reporting to senior management, risk committees and regulators on AML risk posture and program performance.
What you’ll bring
- Demonstrated experience in an AML, financial crime or compliance role within banking or financial services.
- Strong working knowledge of the AML/CTF Act, AUSTRAC rules and broader regulatory expectations across the Australian market.
- A relevant tertiary qualification; professional certifications such as ACAMS, CA, CPA or equivalent will be well regarded.
- Proven ability to translate regulatory requirements into practical, scalable controls and operational processes.
- Sharp analytical and investigative skills, with sound judgement when assessing suspicious activity and emerging risk.
- Confident communication and stakeholder management skills, with the credibility to influence at senior and executive levels.
Why this role
- High-impact mandate with genuine visibility to senior leadership and regulators during a period of meaningful change.
- Hybrid working model that supports flexibility and balance, alongside a competitive package and superannuation.
- Scope for autonomy and professional growth within a well-resourced, supportive financial crime team.
