The opportunity
A newly created mandate has opened within the internal audit function of an ASX-200 financial services group, as it scales its assurance capability through a period of transformation and regulatory change. This is a pivotal moment to shape how the second and third lines of defence work together across the group’s banking, wealth and insurance operations. You will own the delivery of complex audits end-to-end while helping to modernise the function’s data-driven approach to risk.
What you’ll do
- Lead the planning, scoping and delivery of risk-based internal audits across the group’s core financial services portfolios.
- Assess the design and operating effectiveness of controls spanning credit, operational, conduct and financial reporting risk.
- Partner with senior business and risk stakeholders to agree pragmatic, value-adding remediation actions and track them through to closure.
- Prepare clear, evidence-based audit reports and present findings with confidence to executive management and the Audit Committee.
- Coach and develop junior auditors, reviewing their work and lifting the technical quality of the team’s output.
- Drive the adoption of data analytics and continuous-auditing techniques to sharpen coverage and efficiency.
What you’ll bring
- CA, CPA, CIA or equivalent professional qualification, supported by a relevant tertiary degree.
- Demonstrated internal audit experience gained within banking, insurance, wealth or a Big Four assurance practice.
- Strong working knowledge of APRA prudential standards, CPS 230, risk frameworks and the three-lines-of-defence model.
- Proven ability to lead audits independently and manage multiple engagements against competing deadlines.
- Sharp analytical judgement, with the confidence to challenge constructively and influence at a senior level.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of producing board-ready reporting.
Why this role
- Genuine autonomy to own your portfolio and influence how the audit function evolves.
- A visible seat at the table with regular exposure to executives and the Audit Committee.
- A supportive, high-calibre team and a hybrid working model that balances collaboration with flexibility, alongside competitive superannuation.
